Gotchas
- The free plan ends when you cross 25 stakeholders or $1M raised; a priced round usually pushes you onto a paid plan.
- 409A valuations are not included in Launch.
- International (APAC/MENA) subscriptions may need Carta approval under local regulations.
- Perks-platform discounts are for new Carta customers only and require an active card with that platform.
About the Carta program
Carta Launch is Carta's free plan for very early companies: cap table management, SAFE and equity issuance tooling at no cost for startups with up to 25 stakeholders and up to $1 million raised. Carta's official Launch brochure words it as 'free for companies with up to $1M raised and 25 stakeholders or fewer (terms apply)'. Sign-up requires only an email address and your certificate of incorporation; founders can do it themselves or a partnering law firm can set it up.
Once a company passes the stakeholder or funding limits, or needs a 409A valuation, it upgrades in-product to one of Carta's paid early-stage plans (the 409A is included from the Grow plan upward). Carta Launch is also available in APAC and MENA, though international subscriptions may be subject to approval based on local regulations.
Startups that have outgrown Launch can get discounts on paid Carta plans through fintech perks platforms: Ramp lists 20% off the first year plus waived implementation fees for new Carta customers holding a Ramp card, and Brex and Mercury both list 20% off the first year.
