Via VC or accelerator partner
- Verifiable funding from, or participation in, a recognised investor or accelerator

Eligibility
Requirements
- Firebase project on the Blaze (pay-as-you-go) plan linked to a Google Cloud billing account
- Start tier: founded in past 2 years with working MVP and clear business model
- Scale / Scale AI tiers: verifiable pre-seed to Series A funding from a known investor, founded within the last 3-5 years
- Located in a region where Google Cloud is GA and self-service purchasable
Not eligible
- Companies that have IPO'd or been acquired, educational institutions, government entities, nonprofits
- Dev shops, consultancies, agencies, personal blogs or content sites
- Cryptocurrency mining or token distribution contrary to regulation; regulated industries; businesses outside Google's AUP
- Non-venture funding (PE, loans, grants, crowdfunding, friends and family) does not qualify for Scale
How to apply
- 1
Create a Google Cloud billing account and upgrade your Firebase project to the Blaze plan.
- 2
Apply at cloud.google.com/startup, selecting the Start or Scale tier that matches your funding.
- 3
Provide funding evidence (investor or accelerator) for Scale tiers; Google reviews and emails the decision.
- 4
Credits are applied to the billing account; Firebase charges draw from them automatically.
Gotchas
- Credits never cover the Spark (free) plan; Firebase must be on Blaze and linked to the credited billing account.
- Year-two Scale credits are only 20% of spend, so the headline $200K/$350K assumes substantial usage.
- Eligibility criteria change annually; past Google Cloud credit usage and prior enrollment affect acceptance, and credits cannot be shared or resold.
- This is the same program as the Google Cloud entry in Cloud & Infrastructure; Firebase is just one covered product.
About the Google program
Firebase has no separate startup program; Firebase usage on the Blaze (pay-as-you-go) plan is billed through Google Cloud and is covered by the Google for Startups Cloud Program credits. Google's FAQ states the program provides "Google Cloud credits (up to $200,000 USD, or up to $350,000 USD for Scale tier AI startups)" and its Web3 track explicitly covers "Google Cloud and Firebase usage".
The Start ($2k) tier is for startups founded in the past 2 years with a working MVP, a clear business model and plans to seek venture funding soon. The Funded tiers (Scale and Scale AI) "range from $200K - $350k in credits" and are for growing startups with verifiable pre-seed to Series A funding, founded within the last 3-5 years. Scale: year 1 covers 100% of usage up to $100,000, year 2 gives 20% credit on spend up to an additional $100,000. Scale AI: year 1 100% up to $250,000, year 2 20% up to an additional $100,000.
Google assesses startups on funding stage, funding type, business model, founder experience and product usage, plus vertical, age and growth trajectory; acceptance is at Google's sole discretion and criteria change annually. Non-venture funding (private equity, bank loans, grants, crowdfunding, friends and family) does not qualify for the Scale tier. Google cannot accept companies that have IPO'd or been acquired, educational institutions, government entities, nonprofits, personal blogs, dev shops, consultancies or agencies, cryptocurrency mining companies, regulated industries, or businesses outside the Acceptable Use Policy. Credits can only be used by the original applicant and cannot be shared, split or resold. Rejected applicants are pointed to the $300 Free Trial and encouraged to reapply after raising.
Frequently asked questions
Can Google Cloud startup credits be used for Firebase?
Yes. Google's startup FAQ and perks page state that Firebase costs are covered by the Google Cloud credits, as long as the Firebase project is on the Blaze plan and linked to the credited billing account.
How much can a Firebase startup get?
$2,000 at the Start tier, or up to $200,000 over two years at Scale (up to $350,000 for Scale AI). Year one covers 100% of usage up to the cap; year two covers 20% of spend up to $100,000.
Do I need venture funding?
Not for the Start tier, which targets startups founded in the past two years with an MVP and plans to raise. Scale and Scale AI require verifiable pre-seed to Series A funding.
