Gotchas

  • Crypto companies are excluded.

  • The free period is 6 months; after that you need a paid plan to keep paid features.
  • GitBook doesn't say which plan tier or dollar value the six months covers.

About the GitBook program

The GitBook Startups Program gives venture-backed startups six months of GitBook at no cost, with access to the full platform. It also includes dedicated support that skips the standard queue, a documentation playbook for structuring developer docs, APIs and internal knowledge bases, and a startup spotlight on GitBook's channels.

To qualify, the startup must have been founded less than 2 years ago, have raised no more than $2M USD in total, not currently be on one of GitBook's paid plans, and not be a crypto company. You confirm these criteria in the application form on the page, which also asks for your name, work email, company size and any further information.

After the six months, GitBook's FAQ says you can move to one of its paid plans. It does not describe an automatic charge or a discounted follow-on rate, and it does not name the plan tier or a dollar value for the free period.

Research notes

Checked the startups page, including FAQ answers loaded by the page's own script. It states six months free, founded under 2 years ago, up to $2M raised, not on a paid plan and non-crypto. GitBook's help center separately says it offers no discounts beyond annual billing and the Community plan, without mentioning this program.
