Gotchas
- Twilio explicitly states it does not offer extra credits to startups at this time.
- Searchlight grants are competitive awards for roughly 30 honorees per year, not a perk you can simply claim.
- The 2026 Searchlight application window closed September 11, 2026.
- Perks sites still listing Twilio startup credits are quoting the discontinued program.
About the Twilio program
Twilio's official startups page (twilio.com/en-us/solutions/startups) answers 'Do you offer startup credits?' directly: 'Every Twilio customer gets a small credit when they open an account to start building their first project. We do not offer additional credits to startups at this time.' The page positions Twilio Startups as free educational resources ('Grow with Twilio') and a contact form, not a credit program. Earlier Twilio Startups blog posts described product credits, accelerator partnerships (such as Techstars) and a DigitalOcean collaboration; that credit offer is no longer available.
The only route to larger Twilio credits now is the Twilio AI Startup Searchlight, an annual awards program for AI startups. The 2026 edition offered a one-time grant of up to $5,000 USD in Twilio credits for Breakthrough Builder honorees and up to $10,000 USD in Twilio credits plus a Ramp gift card worth up to $5,000 for Scaling Visionary honorees, along with 1:1 engagement with Twilio Ventures. Eligibility required less than $200M in venture funding raised and an applicant contact at least 21 years old; the submission deadline was September 11, 2026, reviewed on a rolling basis. No future round has been announced.
For day-to-day building, Twilio's standard trial gives product-specific free units for 30 days before you upgrade.
